What should I do if my WhatsApp number is already connected to another platform?

2 min read

If your WhatsApp number is already connected to another platform, the first thing to check is Meta Business: confirm whether the number is attached to a WhatsApp account and which partner or integration it is linked to. That will tell you whether the previous setup is blocking onboarding in CitaFlow.

The same number cannot always be used at the same time in two WhatsApp Business API integrations. If it is still associated with another provider, Meta may show it as already registered, leave the connection pending, or block changes during setup.

What to check first in Meta

  1. Open the WhatsApp accounts section in Meta Business: https://business.facebook.com/latest/settings/whatsapp_account/
  2. Check whether the WhatsApp account related to your number appears there.
  3. Make sure you have admin access to the business and to the WhatsApp account.
  4. Verify whether the asset is shared, assigned, or connected through a partner.
  5. Review the connected partners section in Meta Business: https://business.facebook.com/latest/settings/partners

What to confirm

  • Whether the number is currently active on another platform.
  • Whether the number appears inside your Meta Business account.
  • Which partner, provider, or integration it is connected to inside Meta.
  • Whether the previous provider uses your number directly or through a setup they manage.
  • Whether you have enough permissions to manage or remove that connection.

What to do next

  • Decide which platform should keep the main number.
  • If the number is still linked to another provider, ask that provider to release or disconnect it.
  • If Meta Business still shows the WhatsApp account or connected partner as active, review those relationships before trying to connect again.
  • After the number is released or the blocking relationship is removed, try connecting again from CitaFlow.

Important

  • Seeing another number or an existing account in Meta does not always mean there is an error; it may simply reflect a previous registration.
  • If you cannot remove the connection or associated partner, the block is usually controlled by Meta or the previous provider, not by CitaFlow.
  • In some cases, number migration requires extra steps depending on how it was originally set up.

If you are not sure which connection should be removed, first confirm in Meta Business which WhatsApp account and which partner are linked there. This helps avoid disconnecting the wrong setup or repeating unnecessary steps.
