Frequently asked questions

Will I lose my number when porting?
No. Number portability is regulated by ICASA in South Africa. Your number belongs to you and you can take it to any provider, including non-geographic (087) numbers since the 2022 regulations.
How long does porting take?
Geographic numbers typically port within 5-10 business days. Non-geographic (087, 086) ports may take longer due to the complexity of the process. Evening cutovers are common to minimize disruption.
What is RICA and why do I need it?
RICA (Regulation of Interception of Communications Act) requires identity verification for all telecom services. You must provide a valid ID and proof of residence (utility bill less than 3 months old) to complete the port.
Do NOT cancel your current service!
This is critical: do NOT cancel your line with your current provider before the port completes. Cancelling will result in losing your number permanently. CitaFlow handles the transfer automatically.
